AFRICA, OH MY AFRICA

You that is the cradle of civilization
Where men first learnt to live like a nation
Are you now the shame of civilized men?
You that started before the owners of the yen
Now sit back last in the race
Despite your wealth, beauty, and grace

So many an author has written and was paid
How Europe underdeveloped Africa, they said
Men and wealth forcefully enslaved
Even as talons of ownership were engraved
On skins so very beautiful and black
Just that mother Europe’s children might not lack

History I’ve visited again and again
Seen so many slaves freedom try to regain
Again and again they tried and failed
Till age caused their bodies to be ailed
Kunta-kunte and his likes
Never afraid of the spikes

Yes, they took away men so lusty
Including our women very busty
Toiling and sweating, they built another nation
Never has such been seen since creation
Events that doth take all men aback
That Europe through wickedness kept on track

To the Americas they took our men of nobility
So many full of agility and great ability
Enough of talking about this aberration
It has taken its fair share and ration
On this my historical piece in a line
Even though the fault isn’t mine

I think it’s time to end this game
Of forever trading blame
And begin afresh to ask ourselves questions
Ever since the whites had left our nations
What have we done to ensure some gain?
Other than try to inflict more pain

Today I see a vision of Africa
Overshadow the achievements of America
For there is nothing evil about her lands
Neither is there lack of wealth in her sands
If only her leaders would learn to be right
Then and only would Africa be right
