Towards A credible elections

Yesterday,I watched with ecstasy and delight as Asenal humbled Barcelona 2:1.This was after leading and misleading football analysts and pundits alike had predicted a 5:1 walloping of Arenal.Well,at the end of 90minutes,they would have to eat their words. As I left the viewing centre,I had loads on my mind.Starting from the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt to the call of some strata of Nigerian youths for same measures in Nigeria. Was that really the answer. The president had only recently promised and reiterated his promise to ensure a credible election. Is it possible? Our first elections were marred by violence especially in the western region in 1965,one of the reasons posited by the 'khaki boys' as to why they usurped power from the civillians. They felt that 'the bloody civillians' held nothing but doom in store for the country.Over 50years down the lane, can we break the jinx? With all the predictions and counter predictions as to the way forward for Nigeria;western analyst saying that we are at the brink of a dangerous precipice, just a little jolt and Nigeria would break up disastrously. That is their opinion.Fellow country men,let not another mans opinion become our reality. We all need each other. We must fight to keep Nigeria United. We must ensure that the forthcoming elections is kept free and fair at all costs, for it would be a litmus test to our continued existence as one nation.Shun violence and thuggery!Instead, strive to proffer positive and innovative ideas that would aid us in the successful conduct of the April polls. It is in line with that I wish to make a suggestion to the powers that be in this country.I believe if it is implemented,we can ensure free and fair election to a reasonable extent.
Let INEC state commissioners outsource contracts to youths who can use a video camera,in all the polling centres. Then as soon as counting of votes begins, let the videocamera man start recording in the presence of each parties agent. After counting, the agents should sign the result. All these is recorded. Now since its digital camera, copies of video can immediately be transferred to an online database designed for that purpose, and as well as kept by the agents. This reduces the risk of rigging and would also ensure that the situation where we have election petition cases for up to 3and half years becomes a thing of the past.Thats my idea, what about yours.Dont you think that together we can?Yes we can.Put in your quota so that in the end,all these Nostradamus visioniers of Nigerian break up by 2015 can eat their words like my Arenal critics! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
